2 Teens die when SUV lands in south Pasco Co. pond

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL – Two 17-year-olds died when their SUV landed in a retention pond in Wesley Chapel on Monday night, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The crash happened near the intersection of Estancia Boulevard and San Romano Drive around 10:30 p.m. The two occupants of the SUV included a male driver and a female passenger.

Police say the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle while heading north on Estancia Boulevard. At that time, the SUV crashed into a retention pond and sank.

A dive team from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle several hours later and determined that both teens were deceased.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing, and police have not yet released the names of the victims.
