5 injuries in 5 vehicle accident in Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, FL- Five people were hospitalized when five vehicles crashed and started a fire on I-95 on Tuesday, CBS12 reports.

The incident involved vehicles from lanes heading in both directions and occurred between Atlantic and Linton Boulevard.

It began in the northbound section when a vehicle hit another car after swerving out of its initial lane. Another vehicle behind these two swerved to evade the crash but then hit the median wall. Upon hitting the median, this third vehicle caused a light pole to fall into the southbound section.

On the southbound section, a car and a tanker truck were hit by the light pole. The fuel tanker ignited as soon as the pole fell on it.

The massive fire that resulted burned the three cars on the northbound section and spread to another section of the highway through a storm drain.

Out of the injured, three were in critical condition.

The following first responders responded to the call: the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, the Boca Raton Fire Rescue, the Florida Highway Patrol, and the Palm Beach County Sherriff’s Office.
