Narrative
BOYNTON BEACH, FL – One person died Friday when a train struck a vehicle on the southeast side of Boynton Beach.
The accident happened around 12:15 p.m. at the Southeast 23rd Avenue train crossing. This is west of US-1 and northeast of Baptist Health Bethesda Hospital East.
Police say that the 69-year-old driver of a white BMW entered the tracks after the railroad crossing gate arms had dropped. The conductor of the Brightline train was unable to stop before hitting the vehicle.
The driver of the BMW died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his name to the public.
No other injuries have been referenced in connection to the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
