Cessna Hits SUV on Miami Bridge, Kills 1

MIAMI, FL – One person died, and four others were injured when a Cessna 172 Skyhawk crashed into an SUV and caught fire on the Haulover Inlet Bridge on Collins Avenue on Saturday, NBC 6 reports.

Officials say the plane departed from Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport and planned to land in Key West. The aircraft lost power around 1 p.m. and crashed head-on into an SUV on the bridge.

Police say there were three passengers on the plane, two of whom were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. The third passenger, whom authorities have identified as 36-year-old Narciso Torres, was recovered from the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The SUV had three passengers, including a mom and two small children. The SUV occupants were transported to the hospital, but authorities say they did not sustain serious injuries.
