Narrative

Drake Sawyer passed away after causing two collisions on State Road 33 on Feb. 22nd. Sawyer was a detention deputy for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. At 11:20a.m., the 22 year-old drove his Mazda into the southbound lane and hit a truck head-on. Sawyer’s vehicle then proceeded to strike another car. The former deputy died at the scene and the 32 year-old truck driver was hospitalized. He is expected to survive. The condition of the female driver is unknown.
