Motorcyclist injured after being intentionally struck by hit-and-run driver, authorities say

SAND HILLS, FL (BAY COUNTY) – A woman is facing charges after authorities say she intentionally struck a motorcyclist with her vehicle, then fled the scene of the crash on State Highway 77 early Thursday morning.

According to WFTL Radio, the incident happened in northwestern Bay County on southbound SH-77 near Court Martial Ranch Road at around 6 a.m., as a 27-year-old woman driving a 2000 Toyota Camry was allegedly following a man operating a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle headed southbound. She then intentionally hit the motorcycle from the rear, causing the motorcyclist to be ejected from the vehicle. The driver then fled the scene northbound.

The victim, a 47-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening wounds during the crash.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Harley Hawthorne, was apprehended during a traffic stop in Washington County by authorities.

Two children were reportedly in the vehicle with her when the incident occurred.

Hawthorne is facing a charge of attempted murder, one charge of attempted battery, and two charges of child neglect.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
