Narrative
HAINES CITY, FL – An afternoon crash involving a semi along the highway in Haines City killed one person and hurt two others Wednesday.
The accident happened around 3:45 p.m. on U.S. 27 near Morrison Ranch Road, which is near Lake Henry.
Police say that a southbound 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt entered the northbound lanes of US-27 and crashed head-on with a northbound 2023 Dodge Durango. Both vehicles then collided with a 1997 Kenworth truck.
The wrong-way driver, identified as 64-year-old Katrina Moore, died at the scene after being thrown from her vehicle.
Medics transported two people from the Dodge to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt in the accident.
Officials closed all northbound lanes of US-27 and two southbound lanes for at least four hours while crews attended to the victims and worked to clear the wreckage.
