MONROE COUNTY, FL – An 85-year-old woman’s life was claimed following a Monday car crash on the Seven Mile Bridge in Monroe County.
WSTP said a silver Maserati and a black Volkswagen SUV on the US 1. The SUV was in front, and the Maserati was behind. In a no-pass zone, the Maserati had attempted to pass the SUV but failed and ended up hitting the SUV.
The SUV driver’s name was not released. However, what was stated was that Amparo Huaman, the 85-year-old SUV passenger, was killed by the crash’s impact. The four other SUV passengers, including Huaman’s 15-year-old granddaughter, were hospitalized for life-threatening injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol arrested the Maserati driver for driving under the influence. The driver was identified as 43-year-old Mike Muthama.
It was unclear if Muthama was harmed; however, he was charged with severe bodily harm, several counts of drunk driving, and reckless homicide. He was booked at the Monroe County Jail.
